The Genesis G80 and G80 electric vehicle (EV) have been awarded the highest rating in the crash tests announced by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States.
On the 13th, Genesis announced that both models received the IIHS's highest crash test rating, the "Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+)" designation.
The Genesis brand previously earned the top TSP+ rating this year for models including the G90 in February, as well as the GV60, GV70, GV70 EV, and GV80 in August. Starting this year, the evaluation criteria for side-impact and pedestrian crash prevention have been raised, and the headlamp evaluation standards have become more stringent, making it more difficult to achieve excellent ratings.
IIHS is a nonprofit organization established in 1959. Every year, it comprehensively evaluates the crash safety and prevention performance of vehicles released in the U.S. and publishes the results. Vehicles demonstrating the highest safety receive the TSP+ rating, while those with good performance receive the TSP rating.
Genesis has equipped all its models with a wide range of advanced driving safety assistance features, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), and Highway Driving Assist (HDA).
A Genesis representative stated, "Genesis prioritizes customer safety above all in developing all vehicle models," adding, "The fact that multiple Genesis models have earned the TSP+ rating reflects their high level of safety."
