Gwangyang-si Hosts Cultural Center Nim-gil Procession Reenactment Event


Planned and Operated Together by 10 Teams of Citizen Gungri Lab

The Gwangyang Cultural City Center in Jeonnam announced that on the 21st (Saturday) from 2 PM to 5 PM, it will hold the “4th Cultural Won-nim-gil Procession Reenactment Event” and “October, The Day the Won-nim Came” at Munhwawon-nim-gil and the Gwangyang History and Culture Hall as part of the 2023 Cultural City Development Project’s local content “Gwangyang-san” fostering project.


“October, The Day the Won-nim Came” is an event planned and operated by 10 teams of the Citizen Gungri Lab, composed of artists and citizens, together with young cultural planners to revitalize Munhwawon-nim-gil.

In this fourth event, celebrating the 1st anniversary of the Citizen Gungri Lab, the procession will be held under the concept of “The Won-nim’s Birthday Performance,” where citizens celebrate the Won-nim’s birthday by touring the village with various alley games and performances to bless the village.


The dress code for citizens is party attire from both Eastern and Western styles, and the event will proceed with a festive concept involving diverse citizens. Experience results such as wish writing and coloring five-colored lanterns will be used in the procession and alley exhibitions.


First, from 2 PM for 30 minutes, experiences such as wish writing, coloring, and five-color painting will be available.


At 2:30 PM, an appointment ceremony will be held at the Inseori protected tree with the Citizen Honorary Won-nim and the Little Won-nim, followed by a procession passing through Munhwawon-nim-gil, which artists and citizens have decorated with cheongsachorong lanterns, folk painting nameplates, sotdae poles, etc., where games and performances will take place.


When the procession arrives at the Gwangyang History and Culture Hall at 3:20 PM, there will be a message from the Citizen Honorary Won-nim and a birthday celebration performance for those born in October who registered in advance, along with sharing of buchimgae pancakes, dalgona candy, and traditional play experiences.


From 4 PM to 5 PM, collaborative performances including gugak (traditional Korean music), popera, popular songs, and choir will be held at the Gwangyang History and Culture Hall.


This event has been planned and operated together by 10 teams of the Citizen Gungri Lab since last year. The Citizen Gungri Lab consists of Channuri, Yeharang, Juin Gong, Sunshine Voice, Dagogo Tour, Haeah, Together Traditional Play, Donghaeng, Parang, and the Gwangyang Youth Culture and Arts Research Association.


Park Si-hoon, director of the Gwangyang Cultural City Center, said, “Through the ‘Cultural Won-nim-gil Procession Reenactment Event,’ the very process of local artists and citizens holding regular meetings and creating the fourth event itself is meaningful,” and added, “We hope for the interest and participation of many citizens.”
