Naver Blog Celebrates 20th Anniversary with 2.8 Billion Posts Created Across 33 Million Blogs

Naver celebrated the 20th anniversary of its blog service by launching an event page titled “Anything Is Possible When Records Accumulate” and highlighted the major services created together with users over the past 20 years.

The event page reveals various data that provide insights into the service’s growth history and scale over more than two decades, allowing users to explore key records they have directly created. Specifically, it features ▲‘Cumulative Blog Metrics’ highlighting data accumulated over 20 years ▲‘Blog Service History’ showcasing the evolution of major service functions and icons ▲‘Blog Records’ reviewing significant records left by users ▲the 20th anniversary commemorative event ▲and ‘Blog People 20 Questions 20 Answers,’ an interview series with popular bloggers, encompassing a wide range of service-related events.

Since the service’s launch, the total number of blogs created has reached 33 million, and during the same period, the number of posts published on these blogs has soared to 2.8 billion. Additionally, the posts contain approximately 13.4 billion images and 170 million location tags, confirming that users have accumulated vast records on their blogs through various means beyond text. The cumulative donations made through Happy Bean, which users can earn when publishing blog posts, have also reached a total of 16 billion KRW.

Statistics also highlight that blogs serve as spaces for diverse records and continue to facilitate active interaction among users. According to the compiled data, 70 million users annually make new blog neighbors, leave 500 million comments, and exchange 1.4 billion likes.

The event page also showcases the 20-year evolution of the blog. Naver Blog, first launched in 2003, was released as an application in 2009, making it accessible on mobile devices. The year 2020 marked the introduction of the Blog Market feature to support bloggers in selling self-produced products, and the 2022 record includes the ‘Blog Weekly Diary Challenge,’ which gained high popularity among the 10-20 age group and led blog usage trends among younger generations.

Moreover, the page adds fun by exploring interesting records directly created by users. Visitors can meet the first power blogger who has been consistently active since the blog’s early days, and enjoy various records derived from blogs, such as the blog with the most neighbors or posts with the highest number of domestic location tags.

In addition to the service’s historical changes, the page introduces major service updates aimed at enhancing users’ blog experiences. Naver Blog plans to advance related features, including ▲revamping ‘Blog Moment’ to align with short-form content trends ▲strengthening location tagging in the newly launched ‘My Purchase Review’ feature last month ▲improving ‘Interest-based Feed Recommendations’ in the mobile blog app ▲and providing personalized blog homepages and mobile widgets.

Naver is also holding an event to commemorate the blog’s 20th anniversary by giving away limited-edition 20th-anniversary goods.

Kim Boyeon, Naver Blog leader, stated, “Naver Blog is a long-standing service with a 20-year history, and it has recently gained new growth momentum thanks to the steady response from younger users who focus on ‘records,’ from last year’s Weekly Diary Challenge to the Check-in Challenge that concluded successfully last month. We plan to continue making various efforts to provide better user experiences based on a stable service built on long-term trust with users.”
