Gangbuk-gu Successfully Completes First Session of Climbing Training Program

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that the free sports climbing lesson program for youth, "Climbing My Dream," is receiving great responses from teenagers as it operates to improve their physical fitness and sense of achievement.

"Climbing My Dream" is an educational program that supports healthy growth and leisure activities for youth through climbing lessons, established as part of the Gangbuk Future Education District project utilizing local resources.

This program, targeting 2nd and 3rd grade middle school students in the area, is held at "Rockland" (315 Dobong-ro, Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu), operated by Kim Ja-in, Gangbuk-gu's public relations ambassador and national climbing athlete, over four sessions.

Kim Ja-in, who manages the program, stated, "I participated in this Gangbuk Future Education District project to widely promote climbing to children in the local community," adding, "As sports climbing has become an official Olympic event, I will also join in nurturing future talents so that South Korea can stand tall as a powerhouse in sports climbing."

About ten youths participated in the first session held from the 7th to the 9th. The lessons were conducted in a 1:1 coaching format where youths took turns receiving instruction. Over three days, they learned basic understanding of bouldering, hold grip methods, inside steps, outside steps, and other advanced techniques.

Additionally, students practiced voluntarily until 8 p.m. after the lessons ended.

Kang Seo-yoon (female, 2nd grade, Seongam Girls' Middle School), who participated in the first session, said on the 9th, "I joined the program on my mother's recommendation, and it was enjoyable to experience climbing firsthand with friends, which I had only seen as an Olympic sport."

Jang So-eun (female, 2nd grade, Seongam Girls' Middle School), who also took part in the program with Kang Seo-yoon, said, "Climbing was difficult, but I felt a sense of achievement in solving problems during the process," adding, "If there is another opportunity, I would like to participate in the program again."

The district plans to operate the 2nd to 4th sessions of the "Climbing My Dream" program for three weeks starting from the 13th (▲2nd session on Fridays 13th, 20th, 27th ▲3rd session on Saturdays 14th, 21st, 28th ▲4th session on Sundays 15th, 22nd, 29th).

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, "Through this program, students will be able to continue self-directed sports leisure activities," and added, "We will continue to prepare various educational projects based on residents' needs and provide opportunities for students to explore their career paths."
