Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) installed a ‘Smart Rest Shelter’ last month and has begun full-scale operation. It was additionally created to prepare for climate changes such as heatwaves, cold waves, and fine dust, allowing residents to rest comfortably and safely throughout all four seasons.
The locations are two bus stops near Exit 2 of Guui Station and next to the Gwangjin-gu Office. These sites were selected based on the high number of public transportation users and the criterion that installing shelters would not inconvenience pedestrians.
The shelter is made of reinforced glass, measuring 6m in width, 2.1m in depth, and 3m in height, designed as an open type so that the inside and outside are clearly visible. Additionally, to prepare for possible crimes and accidents, CCTV and emergency bells were installed to ensure residents can use the shelter safely.
Convenience was also considered. Air conditioners and air purifiers were installed to create a comfortable resting space for residents during heatwaves, cold waves, and fine dust. The shelter is also equipped with amenities such as a local wireless network (Wi-Fi), mobile phone chargers, and electric awnings.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We have created this space so that residents can rest in a safer and more pleasant environment during upcoming cold waves and fine dust. We hope many people will use it,” and added, “We will continue to strive to minimize residents’ inconveniences by expanding various convenience facilities.”
Meanwhile, last year, the district operated shelters at Exit 4 of Gwangnaru Station and two bus stops near the Gwangjin Culture and Arts Center, and plans to operate a total of six shelters by adding two more locations.
