Gwangju Transportation Corporation Passenger Count from 5th to 9th
Daily Transport Volume Increases by About 8,000 Compared to Usual
Last weekend, the number of passengers using the Gwangju Urban Railway surged due to the ‘2023 Chungjang Festival’ held around Chungjang-ro.
Gwangju Transportation Corporation (President Jo Ik-moon) announced on the 10th that the total number of passengers over the five days from the 5th to the 9th, during the Chungjang Festival period, was about 55,000 per day, an increase of approximately 8,000 from the usual 47,000 daily passengers.
In particular, on Friday the 6th, 68,008 people boarded the railway in one day, marking the second highest number of passengers since December 23 last year (84,798 passengers), when heavy snow paralyzed road traffic after the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Culture Complex Station and Geumnamno 4-ga Station, which were the festival venues, recorded an average daily usage of 6,173 passengers during the event period, nearly doubling from the average of 3,373 passengers last month.
The corporation set up a ‘Public Transportation Information Booth’ during the festival, providing citizens who visited the event venue using the urban railway with transportation cards preloaded with 2,000 won, encouraging the use of public transportation to enjoy the festival comfortably without parking difficulties.
Additionally, together with the Gwangju Tourism Organization, a ‘K-POP’ performance was held at Geumnamno 4-ga Station, attracting about 500 citizens and receiving great response.
A representative of Gwangju Transportation Corporation said, “We thank the citizens who visited the festival venue using public transportation,” and added, “We will continue to strive to make Gwangju a city where public transportation is convenient.”
