"Ruling Party's 18%p Defeat, Data Analysis"
Ahead of the by-election for the mayor of Gangseo District in Seoul, former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok said, "If (they) lose (the election), they should retire from politics," as Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, went out to support the campaign on his way out of the hospital.
On the 10th, former leader Lee said on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show,' "Isn't it true that just by People Power Party only criticizing Lee Jae-myung, the game of the Gangseo District mayor by-election is overturned?" He added, "Then this is really an absurd level of unpopularity, and (they) should retire from politics."
Earlier, on the 9th, Lee Jae-myung raised the issue of judging the current administration in Gangseo District on his way out of the hospital and appealed for support for Jin Gyo-hoon, the candidate for Gangseo District mayor. On that day, Lee raised his voice, saying, "I believe you will overwhelmingly elect candidate Jin and clearly prove that the people are fearful and that the owners of the country are the people."
Regarding his prediction that the People Power Party would lose by 18 percentage points in this Gangseo District mayor by-election, former leader Lee sharply criticized Kim Byung-min, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, who called it a 'pseudo-commentary,' saying it was "reckless remarks" and that "he should be disciplined with a suspension of party membership for about three years."
Former leader Lee said, "In the 21st general election, our candidates received on average 17.87 percentage points less than Han Jeong-ae, Jin Sung-jun, and Kang Seon-woo in Gangseo District," adding, "So the question is whether the current atmosphere is better or worse than the 2020 general election, and I simply assert that it is not better."
He emphasized, "Since it is a by-election, the voter turnout among the elderly will be somewhat higher," and said, "What kind of pseudo-commentary is this? It is data-based commentary."
Additionally, former leader Lee criticized the election strategies of both the Democratic Party and the People Power Party as "strategyless manpower mobilization." He said, "Analyzing Gangseo District, there are two things," adding, "Especially in areas where our votes do not come out, the proportion of tenants is relatively high, so it is necessary to seriously address measures against rental fraud there, and secondly, transportation measures."
He said, "Gangseo District is a place where people live because it is convenient to take Line 9 to Gangnam or Yeouido, or the Airport Railroad to downtown, but the congestion rate is too severe," adding, "So some people say that a basic service should be dispatched from stations like Gayang Station, and some people just give up on express trains and take local trains. Usually, two things should have been discussed: increasing the number of Line 9 trains and adding more trains."
