Hwaseong-si Opens Applications for 'Nationwide Simultaneous Fishing Permits'

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 10th that it will accept applications for the 'Nationwide Simultaneous Fishing Permit' for about three months from this month until December 27.

The 'Nationwide Simultaneous Fishing Permit' system was established to unify the fishing permit period nationwide in order to enhance the convenience of fishermen and administrative efficiency. For coastal fishing permits, the permit period has been set and implemented simultaneously every five years since 2014. This application period is due to the expiration of the nationwide simultaneous fishing permits (coastal and designated fishing) at the end of this year.

The electronic fishing permit card issued after renewal is a smart card equipped with an IC chip. It stores information about the owner, vessel, permit details, duty-free fuel supply status, and fishery product sales management.

Applicants must be those who have received coastal or designated fishing permits from administrative authorities under Article 40 of the Fisheries Act and whose fishing permits are valid. The validity period of the new fishing permit is five years, from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2028.

Applicants should prepare documents such as the fishing permit application form, fishing permit certificate, registration certificate, and fishing vessel inspection certificate and submit them to the Marine Fisheries Division of the City Hall. If the fishing vessel is leased, a lease termination contract and the lessee’s seal certificate are required. In cases of permit cancellation and reapplication, related education completion certificates must be submitted separately.

Park Byeong-nam, head of Hwaseong City’s Marine Fisheries Division, said, "We hope fishermen will apply within the period to avoid any disadvantages from missing the permit period."

As of October, a total of 560 fishing vessels are registered in Hwaseong City, and this year’s permit renewal targets a total of 489 cases for 299 coastal and designated fishing vessels (455 cases for coastal fishing and 34 cases for designated fishing).
