Changwon General Social Welfare Center originally opened in 2001 as Seongsan General Social Welfare Center, providing welfare services in Sinwol-dong, Seongsan-gu. However, due to the reconstruction of Sinwol 3 District, it relocated to Dogye-dong, Uichang-gu in June this year. Along with the relocation, the welfare center’s name was newly changed to ‘Changwon General Social Welfare Center.’

The Changwon General Social Welfare Center, remodeled from an existing elderly care facility, has a total floor area of 1,741.94㎡, consisting of one basement floor and four above-ground floors. It includes an auditorium, volunteer room, and counseling room on the first floor; program rooms and offices on the second floor; Changwon Migrant Residents Center on the third floor; and a chapel (a place for Mass) on the fourth floor.

Mayor Hong said, “The Myeonggok-dong area in Changgu is a place with high welfare needs among local residents. With the opening of the Changwon General Social Welfare Center, it is expected that the comprehensive welfare demands of residents will be met. In particular, it will be a great support for expanding welfare assistance to vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone, single-parent families, and multicultural families, as well as for establishing a community safety net.”

Since its opening in 2001, Changwon General Social Welfare Center has been operated by the Catholic Diocese of Masan Foundation and is used annually by 50,000 residents. By providing various services such as education and leisure programs, community care services, and meal delivery, it contributes to the enhancement of citizens’ welfare.
