Hong Ik-pyo: "National Audit is the Only Means to Counter the Reckless Yoon Government"... Announces Full-Scale Offensive

National Audit, Conducted for a Total of 24 Days Until the 8th of Next Month
Opposition: "We Will Review the Falling Economy and Livelihood Crisis and Propose Alternatives"

Hong Ik-pyo, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on the 10th, the start of the last National Assembly audit of the 21st National Assembly, that “the audit is almost the only means to confront the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, which is recklessly running despite the crisis in the economy and people’s livelihoods,” signaling a full-scale offensive against the government and the ruling party.

At the National Assembly audit countermeasure meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, Floor Leader Hong said, “If the Democratic Party steps back, the people will not even have the opportunity to question the government,” and added, “The Democratic Party will face the audit with extraordinary determination until the last day.”

Floor Leader Hong emphasized, “This audit is an economic audit to highlight the economy and people’s livelihoods,” and said, “The government is only optimistic and does not present any measures. The Democratic Party will examine the falling economy and the crisis of people’s livelihoods and propose alternatives.”

He added, “This is practically the first audit since the launch of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration 1 year and 5 months ago,” and said, “We will make this an important opportunity to stop the incompetence and recklessness of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration and to set the crisis-ridden Republic of Korea straight.”

He also urged, “If the government and ruling party put aside responsibility for economic failure and measures, blame others and the previous administration, and consistently neutralize the audit, the national crisis will worsen,” and requested, “As the government and ruling party, please take infinite responsibility and engage in the audit.”

Regarding the recent controversy over Kim Haeng, the nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, who left the hearing room with ruling party lawmakers during the confirmation hearing, Floor Leader Hong criticized, “This is an unprecedented case of a candidate disappearing,” and said, “The ruling party is undermining the authority of the National Assembly and neutralizing the confirmation hearing system.”

He continued, “The public’s stance is that (Kim Haeng) is so unqualified that it is difficult to perform the ministerial duties,” and argued, “What the ruling party should do is not to neutralize the confirmation hearing system but to demand the withdrawal of the president’s unqualified nominee.” He emphasized, “Only a shift in the national policy direction can overcome the total crisis,” and added, “The president’s apology and withdrawal of the unqualified nominee is the beginning.”

The National Assembly audit will be held for a total of 24 days from today until the 8th of next month.
