On the 10th, Yongin City announced a traffic improvement plan for the Yangji Intersection area in Yangji-myeon, Cheoin-gu, where chronic congestion occurs repeatedly during morning rush hours.

The 77-meter section between the old Yangji Intersection on Yangji-ro and the National Road No. 42 Yangji Intersection is a bottleneck caused by vehicles moving toward the Yangji IC of the Yeongdong Expressway, and it is also a frequent site of various traffic accidents.

The city explained that with over 2,300 apartment households scheduled to move in nearby, congestion is expected to worsen, so it plans to implement phased improvement measures.

To this end, the city will first improve the lane operation system for a 40-meter section of the total 77 meters to ensure smooth traffic flow for vehicles turning left from Yangji-myeon downtown toward Yangji IC. One lane toward Yangji-myeon will be reduced, while the lanes from the old Yangji Intersection to National Road No. 42 Yangji Intersection will be increased from three to four.

The left-turn signal toward Yangji IC and the straight signal intervals will also be adjusted to reduce the time vehicles remain at the intersection. Additionally, to encourage traffic dispersion, guide signs and road surface markings for a 1.8 km detour route leading to Yangji IC will be installed.

The city plans to complete improvements to the traffic operation system and installation of traffic guidance facilities within the year in consultation with the Yongin Dongbu Police Station and Cheoin-gu Office, while also preparing mid- to long-term measures such as constructing new intersections and expanding road networks.

Meanwhile, the lane between Deokseong and Cheonri in Cheoin-gu, Yongin, which had chronic congestion due to increased vehicle traffic, has been expanded and opened. Cheoin-gu announced on the same day that the road between Deokseong and Cheonri (the old National Road No. 45, Baegok-daero) was expanded from one lane to two lanes in one direction to resolve habitual congestion.

This road frequently experiences heavy vehicle traffic and had a bottleneck caused by the reduction from two lanes to one lane in one direction, leading to chronic congestion. Furthermore, after the opening of the Samga-Daechon National Road Alternative Bypass, vehicle inflow increased, prompting residents to demand improvements to the traffic system.

Cheoin-gu began construction in March and expanded about 520 meters of the road in the Cheonri direction, from SK Seungwon Gas Station to in front of the First Cheonri Bridge, from one lane to two lanes in one direction.

A Yongin City official said, "We will do our best to improve the traffic system so that citizens can travel conveniently in response to development demands such as large-scale residential complexes."
