American influencer Kylie Jenner (26) faced public backlash after sharing a post supporting Israel, which is in armed conflict with Palestine.
According to local U.S. media on the 8th (local time), Jenner shared a post from the pro-Israel account 'StandWithUs' on Instagram last month. The post featured a photo of the Israeli flag along with the message, "Now and always, we stand with the people of Israel!" expressing support.
Jenner wrote alongside the shared post, "If you stand with the people of Israel facing the scariest situation in years, please share this."
However, the response from her followers was cold. The post was met with criticism such as, "Palestine has suffered for generations. What do you know to get involved?" and sarcastic comments like, "Just trying to stir up controversy with no knowledge or consideration," and "Do you even know where Israel is?"
In response, Jenner deleted the post less than an hour after sharing it.
Jenner has 400 million Instagram followers. She has also achieved great success in the cosmetics business, ranking first on the 2020 'World's Top 100 Highest-Paid Celebrities' list.
The Palestinian armed group Hamas launched thousands of rockets on the morning of the 7th, a Jewish Sabbath, targeting southern Israeli cities Sderot and Ashkelon, central cities Tel Aviv, Herzliya, Netanya, and the capital Jerusalem.
As the armed conflict between Hamas and the Israeli military escalated into full-scale war, the U.S. government announced the deployment of an aircraft carrier strike group to the eastern Mediterranean, pledging support for Israel.
According to Israeli and other local media, the death toll from Hamas's attack has exceeded 700, and around 260 bodies were found piled up near the music festival venue in the southern Israeli kibbutz Re'im.
