From October 17 to November 4 at Doosan Art Center Space111
New Work by Director Jin Haejeong Addressing Social Minorities
A unique production featuring 5 actors playing over 100 characters is set to take the stage.
Doosan Art Center announced on the 7th that the play "Love and Information" will be performed at Doosan Art Center Space111 from the 17th until November 4th.
This production is a new work by director Jin Haejeong, who was selected as a Doosan Art Center artist. Since 2016, Director Jin has been exploring social minorities such as adoptees, women, and queer individuals through the creative collective "Project Ear." She has made a significant impact with plays like "Welkin," "Monsoon," "Rotterdam," and "The Scenery Where You Were."
"Love and Information" is a work by British playwright Caryl Churchill, first released in 2012. It consists of about 70 short scenes lasting 2 to 5 minutes each, organized into 7 sections, featuring over 100 characters, adding to its intrigue.
Notably, 5 actors perform more than 100 characters and about 70 puzzle-like dialogue scenes in a random order, captivating the audience’s eyes and ears. The cast includes actors Kwon Eunhye, Kwon Junghoon, Sung Suyeon, Lee Ju-hyeop, and Hwang Eunhoo.
Many media such as TV, the internet, and mobile phones provide diverse information to help make better choices, but excessive amounts can cause fatigue and anxiety among the public. This work portrays the anxiety, obsession, and fatigue in relationships caused by gaps in the information characters remember, questioning how excessive information changes and divides our lives.
The Doosan Art Center Artist program discovers young artists under 40 and supports various creative activities such as new work production, research and workshops for work development, and overseas training. Notable participants include sorikkun (traditional Korean singer) Lee Jaram, playwright/director Sung Giwoong, stage designer/director Yeo Shindong, playwright Kim Eunseong, and the creative group Yangson Project. This year, playwright/director Kang Hyunju and Jin Haejeong were selected.
