Gochang-gun Artificial Rock Wall, Route Setting Renovated... Comprising 18 Courses

The artificial climbing wall in Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, has recently been renovated through route setting work to welcome the autumn season.

According to the county on the 6th, route setting is the process of redesigning courses by adjusting the positions of holds and volumes attached to the wall to allow for diverse and systematic climbing according to different difficulty levels.

Five route setters used an aerial work platform to remove all the existing holds on the outer wall and newly configured the courses, completing safety inspections through route verification.

The renovated courses consist of a total of 18 routes: 5 beginner, 7 intermediate, and 6 advanced. Existing sculptures (such as watermelon and bokbunja) were repositioned so as not to interfere with the courses.

Currently, the main facilities of the Gochang-gun artificial climbing wall include an outdoor lead wall (32×16m), a speed wall (6×16m), an indoor artificial climbing wall, and shower rooms.

Operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with extended night hours until 9 p.m. every Wednesday.

Usage is free of charge, but users must fill out a pledge form and obtain approval from the safety manager before use.

Kim Su-dong, head of the county's Sports Facilities Office, said, “We will do our best to expand the base of sport climbing through dynamic climbing courses so that a wide range of users, from beginners to athletes, can enjoy it.”
