On the 7th, 'Seoripul Reading Golden Bell' Held for 200 Elementary Students in Grades 3-6 to Boost Reading Interest... On-site Golden Bell, Outdoor Reading Shelter, OX Quiz, Roulette Spin, Life Photo Booth, Face Painting, Caricature, and More Events Held
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold the "1st Seoripul Reading Golden Bell" on the 7th. The venue is the International Conference Hall of the National Library of Korea, the country's representative library.
This event was organized to help children develop an interest in reading and cultivate proper reading habits. Additionally, holding it at the National Library of Korea, located at the center of the "Book Culture Street," adds significance. The "Book Culture Street" is the section from Seongmo Hospital Intersection to Nue Bridge, which the district is developing as a themed street where residents can enjoy contemplation with books.
The competition will have 200 elementary school students from grades 3 to 6 participating in the Golden Bell challenge. At 10 a.m., the quiz will be held for grades 3 and 4, and from 2 p.m., for grades 5 and 6. The quiz questions, up to 30 in number from 10 selected books per grade, are prepared by Seocho-gu Public Libraries, the Korea Novelists Association, the Korea Poets Association, and the Korea Translators Association.
Participants will submit their answers digitally using electronic buttons. Afterwards, awards will be given based on the highest scores: one Golden Bell Award, three Excellence Awards, and six Merit Awards, each receiving certificates and plaques.
Also, an area for enjoying a book picnic will be set up on the outdoor lawn and deck of the National Library of Korea. Mobile bookshelves stocked with recommended children's books and webtoons, along with mats and mini tables, will be provided so families can enjoy reading while savoring the autumn weather. Additionally, for children who could not participate in the reading Golden Bell, a "Lawn Golden Bell" will also be held.
Various experience booths will also be available. At the Seocho Smart Library promotion booth, activities such as "Lucky Draw in the Smart Library," "OX Quiz," and "Roulette Spin" will be held. There will also be a "Caricature" booth where visitors can draw and keep memories of the day, a "Face Painting" booth to paint favorite characters on faces, and a "Life Four-Cut Photo Booth" installed in the lobby of the International Conference Hall, allowing families and friends to create lasting memories.
This event is hosted by Seocho-gu and the Seocho Cultural Foundation (CEO Kang Eun-kyung), with support from Kyobo Bookstore and the National Library of Korea.
Meanwhile, the district completed the "one library per zone" plan this year by opening the Bangbae Forest Environmental Library in June. Starting with Banpo Library (Banpo zone) in 2013, it successively opened Naegok Library within Naegok Middle School, the nation's first village-integrated school in 2018 (Naegok zone), Yangjae Library in 2019 (Yangjae zone), and Seocho Youth Library in 2020 (Seocho zone), which is suited for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.
Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, "I hope this event, marking the start of the 'Book Culture Street' development, will help children accumulate knowledge and wisdom and cultivate proper reading habits." He added, "We will continue to strive to make Seocho a 'city that reads books'."
