Jealousy Fueled the Fire... Man in His 50s Sets Vehicle Ablaze

A man in his 50s who set fire to a vehicle out of jealousy over the mistress of a one-room apartment was handed over to the prosecution.

The Dongbu Police Station in Gwangju announced on the 4th that they had arrested and sent Mr. A (in his 50s) to the prosecution on charges of arson of a general building.

Mr. A is accused of pouring a flammable substance on Mr. B’s car and setting it on fire around 2:40 p.m. on the 28th of last month, at a one-room apartment parking lot in Dong-gu, Gwangju, as the Chuseok holiday began.

It was investigated that he committed the crime out of jealousy when Mr. B, who was in an affair with the one-room apartment owner whom Mr. A had feelings for, came to the apartment.

Two other vehicles parked next to Mr. B’s car were also damaged by the fire, but no casualties occurred.

The police urgently arrested Mr. A, who was hiding at home eight hours after the crime, and considering the seriousness of the case, proceeded with a detention investigation.
