Reading and Writing Speeds Doubled Compared to Previous Generation
Samsung Announces Expansion of Consumer SSD Market Opportunities
Samsung Electronics has launched the ultra-fast portable Solid State Drive (SSD) 'T9', capable of storing a Full HD 4GB movie in just 2 seconds, targeting the consumer SSD market. SSDs, which are NAND flash-based auxiliary storage devices, are considered products that can revitalize the sluggish NAND market.
On the 4th, Samsung Electronics announced the release of the 'T9', which supports industry-leading continuous read/write speeds of up to 2000MB per second for the 4TB model. The T9 supports the latest data transfer interface (USB 3.2 Gen 2x2), making its read/write speeds more than twice as fast as the previous generation T7. It is a product suitable for professional creators and photographers who handle large amounts of data.
The T9 is designed according to the USB Type-C standard power usage specifications, allowing it to be used with products based on Android, Windows, and Mac operating systems (OS), as well as various devices such as game consoles and broadcasting cameras. It also applies Thermal Interface Material (TIM) to disperse device heat transfer, making temperature control easier when transferring large files at high speed. The product meets international safety standards to ensure the surface temperature does not exceed 60℃.
The design competitiveness has also been enhanced compared to previous products. The T9 is similar in size to a credit card, making it easy to carry around. The exterior material has a soft texture, improving usability. In particular, the asymmetric diagonal curves and carbon pattern evoke the image of a luxury wallet.
Samsung Electronics plans to expand its consumer SSD market presence through the T9. Market research firm Gartner predicts that the market revenue for this segment will grow at an average annual rate of 36.1% until 2027. SSDs are increasingly replacing the traditional mechanical storage devices known as Hard Disk Drives (HDDs). By 2027, the share of SSDs within the NAND market is expected to rise to 62.96%.
The T9 is being sequentially released worldwide starting from the 3rd in three capacities: 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. Sales began in Korea on the 4th. The domestic prices for the 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models are 165,000 KRW, 291,000 KRW, and 530,000 KRW, respectively. Son Han-gu, Executive Director of the Brand Product Biz Team at Samsung Electronics Memory Business Division, said, "We will continue to strive to provide optimal memory solutions that enhance customer experience."
