Gangbuk-gu to Host 2023 'Animal Day Commemoration' Event

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that it will hold the 2023 Animal Day commemorative event (Theme: Happy Together, Gangbuk!) at the district office auditorium on October 20.

Hosted by Gangbuk-gu Office and sponsored by the Gangbuk-gu Veterinary Association, this commemorative event will proclaim the "World Animal Rights Declaration" and feature a lecture titled "Companion Dogs, the Meaning of a New Family" by veterinarian Seol Chae-hyun, who appeared on EBS's "There Are No Bad Dogs in the World" and provides excellent solutions for problematic companion dog behaviors.

The district expects that through the ceremony, the importance of animals living alongside us will be recognized and residents' awareness of animal welfare and respect for life will be enhanced.

Any Gangbuk-gu resident can attend, with registration limited to the first 200 applicants. Registration opens on October 2 via the district office website. However, as the lecture is held indoors, companion dogs are not allowed to accompany attendees.

Mayor Lee Soon-hee of Gangbuk-gu said, "Through this event, I hope a culture spreads where residents love animals and take full responsibility for and respect their companion animals," adding, "Furthermore, I hope this becomes an opportunity to break down the barriers of conflict between pet owners and non-pet owners."

Meanwhile, on October 28, the "Pet Cheerful Sports Day" will be held at the Gangbuk-gu companion dog playground within "Buk Seoul Dream Forest."

At the Cheerful Sports Day, various events such as running, stay, and obstacle jumping will be held for pet owners and their companion dogs to play and enjoy together. Additionally, various experience booths, including free pet health checkups by the Gangbuk-gu Veterinary Association, will be available. Registration opens on October 2 via the district office website.
