Opening of 'Anseong Station 100,' a Complex Cultural Space Above the Old Anseong Cheolgyo Bridge

A Glimpse at the Former 'Anseongseon' Station History

On the 3rd, Anseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will open 'Anseong Station 100,' a complex cultural space created on the old 'Anseong Line' railway bridge that was closed 34 years ago, to the public starting from the 4th.

The Anseong Line, which opened in 1925 during the Japanese colonial period, was a 28.4 km railway line between Cheonan, Chungnam and Anseong, Gyeonggi, and was closed in 1989.

The newly opened 'Anseong Station 100' was created on the old Anseong Railway Bridge crossing the Anseongcheon River, part of the Anseong Line route. Originally, a 200-meter-long pedestrian deck bridge was installed on the Anseong Railway Bridge and used as a resting area for citizens, but the city has been developing a complex cultural space here since last year to commemorate the reopening of the railway era.

The newly opened 'Anseong Station 100' consists of a structure in the form of two train carriages. It includes an experience space where visitors can watch videos about Anseong's railway history, an open exhibition space, and a resting area.

An official from Anseong City said, "We created this complex cultural space to embody the citizens' hopes for the reopening of the railway era," adding, "We hope this place will be used as a space for nature, culture and arts, exchange, and rest."

Meanwhile, with the inclusion of two lines?the Metropolitan Inland Line (Dongtan?Anseong?Cheongju Airport) regional railway and the Pyeongtaek-Bubal Line (Pyeongtaek?Anseong?Icheon) high-speed railway?in the 4th National Railway Network Construction Plan in 2021, Anseong City is on the verge of reopening its railway era.
