Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young) announced on the 3rd that it will support the safe operation of the ‘Yonggeummak Festival’ held at Yongsan Yongmun Market. Hosted by the Market Merchants Association, this festival will be held a total of six times over three weeks on Fridays and Saturdays from the 6th to the 21st of this month. The operating hours are from 5 PM to 10 PM.

‘Yonggeummak’ is an abbreviation of ‘Yongsan Yongmun Market Golden Beer Festival.’ Visitors who purchase side dishes or food at stores within the market receive free beer exchange tickets to enjoy at outdoor tables.

Yongsan-gu stated, “Last year, the phrase ‘Yonggeummak over Yongamack (Yongsan IMAX)’ became popular on social media, reflecting its popularity. The retro vibe of the traditional market appealed to the tastes of the 20s and 30s generation, spreading by word of mouth, and the final session attracted about 5,000 visitors, successfully concluding the event.”

For this year’s festival, the Merchants Association improved the quality of food through professional consulting and tasting sessions, and established a principle of ‘no purchases over 10,000 won’ to prevent overcharging. Various prizes were prepared for the golden roulette and prize events through stamps given when purchasing food.

The district plans to actively support the festival to contribute to the revitalization of the local commercial district through safe operation. The Merchants Association, which hosts the event, submitted a safety management plan that was reviewed by the Safety Policy Working Coordination Committee. The committee included related organizations such as Seoul City, Yongsan Police Station, Yongsan Fire Station, Korea Electrical and Gas Safety Corporation, the agency in charge, and the Merchants Association, discussing practical matters such as accident prevention measures and securing and deploying safety management personnel.

To support safety management duties, the district will organize an event support team of 30 people per day, deploying a total of 180 people during the event period. They will be positioned in pairs along major passageways around the event site to help prevent safety accidents.

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “This festival, voluntarily prepared by the merchants of Yongsan Yongmun Market, will be an opportunity to strengthen mutual bonds and enhance the self-sustainability of the local commercial district. Since a large number of visitors are expected, I hope that thorough preparation and safety management will be carried out to prevent any safety accidents.”
