At around 9:57 PM on the 1st, a fire broke out in a vehicle driving near the Dongseo Intersection in Gimhae-si, Gyeongnam.

According to the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency on the 2nd, a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a woman in her 30s, Ms. A, emitted heavy smoke from the hood while traveling from the Inje University direction toward Donggimhae.

Ms. A quickly pulled over to the shoulder, and flames erupted from the hood.

The person who noticed this was Police Officer Im Geon-hyeong of the Sineo District Unit, Gimhae Jungbu Police Station, who was on his way home from work.

Officer Im parked his car in front of the accident vehicle and attempted initial firefighting with a personal fire extinguisher.

Until the 119 fire truck arrived, he blew a whistle and waved a light baton to control traffic and prevent secondary accidents.

The vehicle driver Ms. A and her family were evacuated to a safe place.

The dispatched firefighters completely extinguished the fire, and the accident vehicle was towed away.

Officer Im said, “When I saw the fire, my body moved instinctively,” adding, “I just did what was naturally expected of me as a police officer.”
