Hip-Hop Legend '2Pac' Murderer Caught After 27 Years

Shot and killed by assailant in 1996... Case remains unsolved
Police arrest suspect after 26 years: "Gang retaliation"

A suspect in the murder of legendary American rapper 2Pac has been arrested after 27 years.

On the 29th (local time), CNN and others reported that the Las Vegas Police Department apprehended former gang leader Duane Keith 'Keff D' Davis (60) as a suspect in 2Pac's murder earlier that morning.

The state prosecutor announced that a grand jury has decided to indict 'Keff D' on charges of murder involving the use of a deadly weapon in connection with 2Pac's killing.

2Pac is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential artists in hip-hop history. He first gained attention with his debut album '2Pacalypse Now' at the age of 19 in 1991, and subsequently earned acclaim from both critics and the public, becoming the top musician of the 1990s.

He sold over 75 million records and was nominated for a Grammy Award six times. In 2017, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and last month, he was honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

However, 2Pac's prime was short-lived. On September 7, 1996, after watching a boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon in Las Vegas, he was shot by an assailant while traveling by car on the highway. He was transported to the hospital but died six days later.

At the time, police investigated dozens of related individuals, but the investigation ended without results, leading to numerous suspicions raised by the media. Rumors circulated that Notorious B.I.G., who was considered one of the two major figures in American hip-hop and had conflicts with 2Pac, was behind the incident. However, just six months later, Notorious B.I.G. was similarly murdered, plunging the case into mystery.

However, in July, the police announced they searched a house on the outskirts of Las Vegas, revitalizing the investigation.

The police who arrested Davis explained that 2Pac's death was a retaliation between two gangs in Compton, Los Angeles County, California.

On the day of the incident, Davis was in Las Vegas where 2Pac and his entourage had gone to watch the boxing match. It is known that his nephew was assaulted by 2Pac's group at a hotel, and upon learning this, Davis secured a gun and reportedly shot 2Pac.

The police said, "Davis was the on-site commander of the organization that committed this crime," and "He planned this crime."

The police added, "2Pac's family has been waiting for justice for 27 years," and "The investigation that began on the night of September 7, 1996, is not over yet."
