Kim Hee-jung from Jeonnam appointed as Police Bureau Director, second in police hierarchy 'Chief Superintendent'

Gwangju-born Oh Mungyo, Police Agency Spokesperson, Promoted to Chief Superintendent

In the senior police personnel reshuffle conducted by the National Police Agency, officers from Gwangju and Jeonnam were promoted.


In the promotion announced on the 27th by the National Police Agency, Kim Hee-jung, Director of the Police Bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety from Gurye, Jeonnam, was promoted to the rank of Commissioner General, the second-highest rank in the police hierarchy.

The Commissioner General is the rank directly below the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency (Chief Commissioner) and holds positions such as Head of the National Investigation Headquarters, Deputy Commissioner of the National Police Agency, Chiefs of the Seoul, Busan, Southern Gyeonggi, and Incheon Police Agencies, and President of the Korean National Police University.


Director Kim graduated from Dongguk University with a degree in Police Administration and from Kwandong University with a degree in Public Security Administration. He entered the police force as a candidate in the 41st class of the Police Officer Candidate Program. He has served as Chief of Police in Hongcheon, Donghae, and Chuncheon in Gangwon Province, and later as Head of the Criminal Division and Intelligence Division at the Gangwon Police Agency, Head of the Public Safety Department at the Gyeongbuk Police Agency, and Head of the Autonomous Police Department at the Gangwon Police Agency.


Having worked continuously in the Gangwon region, he is classified as part of the "Gangwon line" in personnel terms. It is analyzed that his presence within the police force has grown stronger since his appointment as Director of the Police Bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in December last year.


He is highly regarded by his police colleagues for his "older brother leadership" style and is praised for his excellent political acumen.


Promoted to the rank just below Commissioner General, Senior Commissioner, is Oh Moon-gyo, spokesperson for the National Police Agency. He is from Gwangju Metropolitan City, graduated from Seoksan High School in Gwangju, and entered the police force as part of the 5th class of the Korean National Police University.


He has served as Head of the Intelligence Division at the Southern Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency, Chief of Uiwang Police Station, Head of the Traffic Division at the Southern Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency, Public Relations Officer at the Gyeonggi Police Agency, and Chief of Suwon Southern Police Station. He is known not only for his extensive field experience but also for his cheerful and rational personality, emphasizing harmony. He is reputed for meticulous work handling and enjoys strong trust.


Lim Byung-suk, Head of the Investigation Department at the Gwangju Police Agency, was also promoted to Senior Commissioner. Lim, originally from Seoul, joined the police force in 1987 through the open recruitment exam. He has served in the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Investigation Division at the Seoul Police Agency, as Head of the Investigation Division at five police stations including Gwanak Police Station in Seoul, Head of the Criminal Division at Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul, and as Chief of the 2nd Division 112 Comprehensive Situation Room at the Incheon Police Agency.
