Islands Ideal for Walking While Enjoying Coastal Rocky Cliffs
Geumo Island in Nam-myeon, Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do, which is counted among the 10 scenic spots of Yeosu, was recently selected as one of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘Autumn Islands You Want to Visit.’
Since 2022, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, together with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Island Promotion Agency, has been selecting ‘Islands You Want to Visit’ each season to promote islands that are good for tourism, and this year, five islands including Geumo Island in Nam-myeon were chosen as autumn islands.

Geumo Island is an island ideal for outdoor activities in autumn, where visitors can enjoy walking while admiring the coastal rocky cliffs, making it even more attractive when visited with family or friends.
In particular, the Geumo Island Bireong-gil Trail, built along the coastal cliffs, is a trekking course famous for its natural scenic beauty, attracting about 380,000 visitors in 2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The trail is 18.5 km long and consists of five courses, with Course 1 from Hamgumi to Dupo and Course 2 from Dupo to Jikpo considered the representative routes. Course 3 features a suspension bridge that offers a full view of Geumo Island’s spectacular scenery, and construction of a suspension bridge on Course 4 is also nearing completion.
Additionally, the Ando Goose Camping Site, created by repurposing a closed school, is emerging as a new tourist attraction where visitors can enjoy trekking and backpacking.
Moreover, since the night navigation service on the Singi-Yeocheon route began in July, improved transportation convenience and increased tourist stay times have made it easier to visit Geumo Island at a more relaxed pace.
Travel information for the five islands selected as autumn islands can be found on the Korea Tourism Organization’s website ‘Korea Tourism Online,’ and visitors who participate in events after visiting the autumn islands can receive prizes through a lottery.
A city official said, “Once the marine bridge scheduled for completion in 2032 is built, island residents and tourists will be able to travel to the city center within 30 minutes by vehicle, which is expected to increase the number of visitors to Geumo Island.”
Meanwhile, in 2022, Nango Island in Hwajeong-myeon was selected as the ‘Family Island You Want to Visit in Spring.’
