Opposition Demands "Dismissal of Han Dong-hoon"... Ruling Party Urges "Resignation of Lee Jae-myung"

Yoon Jae-ok: "Illogical Judgment Made by Forcing a Conclusion"

On the 27th, the People Power Party urged Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, to apologize and resign as party leader. This was a countermeasure following the dismissal of the arrest warrant against Lee and the Democratic Party's demand for an apology from President Yoon Seok-yeol and the dismissal of the Minister of Justice.

Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, said to reporters after an emergency party meeting that day, "Regarding the dismissal of the warrant, we decided to express strong regret along with public concern over the illogical judgment that deviates from legal principles and seems to have been prearranged, which does not align with the public's sense of justice."

Floor leader Yoon stated, "Although it is not an acquittal, there is false agitation as if an acquittal was received, and we will report on this in detail at the party level. Regarding the Democratic Party's demand for an apology from the president and dismissal of the Minister of Justice, calling it political retaliation, prosecutorial violence, and concealment and fabrication of government failure, we have decided to demand Lee's apology for clarifying the criminal facts and his resignation as party leader."

He continued, "We will also demand a fact-finding investigation and responsible measures against lawmakers who cooperated in hiding crimes and destroying evidence," adding, "We will demand an apology for anti-democratic and anti-constitutional actions such as rooting out traitors and pressuring the courts," emphasizing, "We urge a responsible attitude as the main opposition party for the sake of people's livelihood and the economy."

Yoo Sang-beom, chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, said in a statement that day, "The dismissal of the warrant against Lee is only an intermediate step in the investigation and falls within the judicial domain," and questioned, "Then why do they keep bringing up democracy and politics to politicize the issue?"

Chief spokesperson Yoo emphasized, "Although the arrest warrant was dismissed, it is clearly revealed that a significant part of the charges against Lee has been proven or suspected," and added, "The prosecution should not hesitate but conduct a thorough investigation into Lee's criminal charges to establish judicial justice by revealing the substantive truth."
