'Yangcheon Autumn Culture Festival' Combining Rock and Books Held at West Seoul Lake Park on October 7-8... Rock (樂) Festival Featuring Hit Medleys by Singers Seomuntak, Kim Kyungho Band, Crying Nut to Boost Excitement... Book Festival with Unique Corners Including Reading-Promoting Magic Shows, Relay Author Lectures, and Fairy Tale Concerts
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that from October 7 to 8, the ‘Yangcheon Autumn Culture Festival 2023’ will be held around Seoseoul Lake Park, where visitors can enjoy rock performances by singers Seo Mun-tak, Kim Kyung-ho Band, and Crying Nut, as well as a book festival and various experience booths all in one place.
This ‘Yangcheon Autumn Culture Festival 2023,’ which consolidates cultural infrastructure including the Yangcheon Cultural Foundation, Yangcheon Cultural Center, and local artists, will take the form of a forest festival called ‘Foresti-val (Forest+Festival).’ Over two days at Seoseoul Lake Park, filled with the autumn atmosphere, it will offer a performance culture program combining rock and a book festival.
Notably, this festival is especially meaningful as it breaks away from the tradition of mainly holding events in the Mok-dong area and is the first large-scale cultural festival to be held in Sinwol-dong, a cultural blind spot.
Additionally, the rock festival, which started from the unique idea of combining rock performances in an airport noise zone, is expected to serve as a cultural outlet to refresh and relieve the accumulated mental and physical stress caused by noise.
On the first day of the festival, October 7, the opening ceremony performance will take place on the outdoor stage at Sinwol Baseball Stadium, where singer Seo Mun-tak, known for his explosive vocal power, and Kim Kyung-ho Band will energetically open the ‘Rock (樂) Festival’ with a medley of their hit songs. On the following day, Crying Nut, Harry Big Button, and Adios Audio will take the stage to continue the festival’s excitement. Moreover, visitors can enjoy a variety of cultural performances crossing genres, including ▲Nongak (traditional Korean percussion music) ▲Nanta (non-verbal performance) ▲belly dance ▲Mongolian traditional performance ▲ballet ▲vocal music ▲modern dance ▲trot, and more.
During the same period, the ‘Book Festival’ will be held simultaneously at the Cultural Deck Plaza inside the park, Seoseoul Arts Education Center, and Mondrian Garden. Unique programs centered around books are prepared, including magician Oh Chang-hyun’s ‘Reading Encouragement Magic Show,’ a ‘Relay Author Lecture’ featuring authors such as Gwak Jae-sik, a scientist famous for writing SF novels, and Kim Hye-kyung, author of the youth literature bestseller ‘Fifteen for Five Hundred Years,’ a ‘Reading Performance’ by Slobodan Marunovi? from Montenegro about Balkan Peninsula literature, and a ‘Fairy Tale Concert’ expressing Andersen’s fairy tales as a musical play.
About 40 diverse cultural experience booths will also be operated, involving local bookstores, cooperatives, libraries, and schools. Visitors can enjoy not only reading experiences and book play but also various crafts, traditional games, and face painting, filling both joy and nourishment for the mind. The inner garden of the park will be decorated as a ‘Reading & Exhibition Zone’ using about 450 themed exhibition books for children and youth, along with a ‘Photo Zone’ to capture memories.
Furthermore, during the festival, parasols and soft single sofas (bean bags) will be placed at the Seoseoul Arts Education Center to create an autumn resting area, satisfying the five senses of visitors who come to the ‘Yangcheon Autumn Culture Festival 2023’ with music and books.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “Through this autumn culture festival, which condenses Yangcheon’s beautiful nature and cultural infrastructure, I hope families spend a weekend full of romance and vitality,” adding, “We will continue to operate abundant cultural and artistic programs that bring healthy joy to the daily lives of our residents.”
