Apple's Mistake?…The Year's Biggest Flop: 80,000 Won iPhone Case Receives Harsh Criticism

FineWoven Material Case Applied to iPhone 15 and Others

Apple, promoting its eco-friendly policy, has recently faced claims that the new cases for the iPhone 15 series have poor quality.

On the 25th (local time), Bloomberg reported that Apple’s newly released phone cases made from fine woven material instead of leather are criticized for being prone to scratches and stains, and having a slippery texture.

Previously, Apple applied the new fabric material called FineWoven to iPhone 15 cases, AirTag holders, and MagSafe wallets. It was explained that mass-producing leather iPhone cases and Apple Watch straps emits a significant amount of carbon.

At the time of release, Apple introduced FineWoven as a "luxurious and durable micro-twill fabric."

Bloomberg published a harsh review titled "Apple’s $59 fake suede iPhone case is the biggest flop of the year." It also pointed out that "Apple’s efforts for eco-friendliness could become one of its biggest mistakes."

Furthermore, it was observed that Apple has failed to capture the hearts of Apple enthusiasts and early adopters who rush to purchase Apple products immediately after release.

The FineWoven iPhone case is priced at $59 (79,650 KRW), which is $10 (13,500 KRW) more expensive than the previous cases. In Korea, it is sold for 85,000 KRW.
