Doosan Construction Development's 'Seismic Reinforcement Technology' Designated as New Disaster Safety Technology

Doosan Construction announced on the 25th that the ‘Seismic Reinforcement Using Non-Shrink Mortar Filled Prefabricated Rectangular Steel Pipe Columns Composed of Double Diaphragms,’ jointly promoted with Lotte Construction and Hill Engineering, has been newly designated as a Disaster Safety New Technology (No. 2023-20).

This technology is a seismic reinforcement method that installs steel pipes filled with non-shrink mortar on existing building columns and then connects steel beams to form a moment frame structure. A moment frame refers to a frame in which members and joints respond to bending, shear, and axial forces. Inside the steel pipe, a double diaphragm, a plate structure that precisely maintains the cross-section, is installed to minimize deformation of the existing column and enhance seismic performance.

Conventional seismic reinforcement methods require complex processes such as ‘rebar and formwork installation → concrete pouring and curing → formwork removal,’ but by applying this new technology, the external steel pipe is used, eliminating the complex processes. Steel pipe columns have high resistance to lateral pressure, which is the horizontal pressure exerted on formwork during concrete pouring, allowing for monolithic concrete casting that shortens the construction period and improves constructability and economic efficiency.

This technology is expected to be applied to schools, neighborhood living facilities, apartments, government offices, and military facilities where seismic reinforcement is necessary and continuous use during construction is required. Additionally, it can be utilized as a main structural frame for new buildings, with anticipated increased demand in parking lots, logistics warehouses, and other facilities.

Doosan Construction is committed to prioritizing safety and quality in its technology development. Besides this new technology, the company has acquired new technologies related to seismic reinforcement focused on safety, such as the ‘Seismic Reinforcement Technology (SMR Method),’ and holds numerous patents including those for ‘Various Interfloor Noise Improvement Structures for Enhancing Residential Performance’ aimed at reducing interfloor noise.

Doosan Construction stated, “We currently hold 7 construction new technologies, 1 environmental new technology, and 3 disaster safety new technologies, and are striving to secure various technologies including convergence technologies. Through continuous technology development, we plan to do our best to improve housing quality and establish optimal living environments.”
