Results of Intensive Inspection on Facilities Emitting Large Amounts of Volatile Organic Compounds
The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office conducted inspections of 57 facilities within its jurisdiction that use large amounts of volatile organic compounds from May to mid-September, a period requiring special ozone management, and identified violations at 16 locations.
The main violations included improper management of facilities such as corrosion, wear, and neglect of air pollution control equipment (8 cases), improper permits such as failure to report changes in emission facilities (5 cases), and violations of waste storage standards and failure to comply with designated waste treatment plan changes (2 cases).
Among the companies, two that violated the Waste Management Act will be investigated and referred to the prosecution office. The remaining 14 companies were notified to the relevant local governments to impose administrative measures and fines.
Chief Choi Jong-won stated, “We will continue to thoroughly monitor and supervise emission businesses so that the public can live in a safer and more pleasant environment,” and added, “We will also strengthen preventive functions by enhancing publicity in advance to prevent violations from occurring.”
