[Asian Games] Korea, 3rd in All-Time Gold Medals, Will It Reach 800?

Achieve Great Success by Winning 50 More from the 25th
Bhutan, Dongtimor, Maldives Challenge for Their First Ever Medals

South Korea had won a total of 745 gold medals (excluding the achievements of the unified North-South team) at the Asian Games up to the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games. This ranks third after China (1,474) and Japan (1,032). It is impossible to surpass these numbers at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. However, aiming to reach a total of 800 gold medals is feasible. On the first day of the opening, the 24th, five more gold medals were added, bringing the total to 750. If fifty more are won from the 25th onward, this milestone can be achieved before the 2026 Nagoya Games in Japan. The goal for the Korean delegation at this event is to win more than fifty gold medals.

There is no need to worry about a drop in ranking. The fourth-ranked Iran has 179 gold medals. Following are India (155), Kazakhstan (155), Thailand (132), North Korea (110), and Taiwan (100). On the other hand, there are countries that have never won a gold medal. These include Bhutan, East Timor, Maldives, Afghanistan, Laos, Nepal, Brunei, Yemen, and Palestine. In particular, Bhutan, East Timor, and Maldives have not even secured silver or bronze medals. They are challenging to win their first-ever medals at this event. The country with the greatest possibility is Maldives, which has sent 165 athletes to this competition. Bhutan sent 26 athletes, and East Timor sent 23.
