The Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Promotion Agency announced that it has been operating the 2023 Gyeongnam Webtoon Campus education program, "One Day Class: Visiting Webtoon Classroom," for three months since August to nurture local webtoon talent.
"One Day Class: Visiting Webtoon Classroom" is a one-day class where webtoon artists visit elementary, middle, and high schools in 16 cities and counties of Gyeongnam upon application and conduct the class on-site.
The education takes place in designated spaces at the applying schools, with each class prepared to accommodate up to 20 students. Since the Gyeongnam Webtoon Campus is located in Changwon, this program was established to directly meet and communicate with students in geographically remote areas who want to learn webtoon creation.
Over the past month, the program visited underprivileged elementary schools in Jinju and communicated on-site with nearly 100 nearby students. Through career education and practical training about webtoon artists, it sparked students' interest and enjoyment.
Those wishing to participate can apply for the One Day Class "Visiting Webtoon Classroom" until October 6. Webtoon artists active in the Gyeongnam area will provide practical training and mentoring through short-term tool activities for two hours a day.
The 2023 webtoon education aims to reduce regional educational disparities and provide students with an opportunity to realize their dreams of becoming webtoon artists.
Since its opening in November 2020, the Gyeongnam Webtoon Campus has been fostering creative talent and spreading webtoon creation culture through step-by-step webtoon education. It also leads the growth of Gyeongnam webtoons by operating various projects such as providing artist residency rooms, supporting work creation, and hosting webtoon festivals.
