Gangseo-gu, Seoul, has launched the "Building Attached Parking Lot Opening Sharing Project," which provides up to 30 million KRW in facility improvement funds when opening building-attached parking lots, aiming to alleviate urban parking shortages.
This project is promoted by Gangseo-gu to open idle parking spaces in large buildings such as apartments, schools, and religious facilities for use by neighboring residents, thereby resolving parking difficulties and promoting a culture of shared parking.
The support targets large buildings such as apartments, companies, religious facilities, and schools that can open at least 5 parking spaces, as well as small-scale buildings that can open at least 3 parking spaces. All must be available for opening for more than 2 years.
For schools, up to 30 million KRW is supported; for large buildings, up to 30 million KRW is provided if opened full-time, and up to 25 million KRW if opened during daytime or nighttime only. For small-scale buildings, up to 2 million KRW per parking space is supported for up to 4 spaces. Facility improvement funds can be used for parking lot facilities and environmental improvements such as installing barriers, closed-circuit television (CCTV), painting, and installing locks.
Opened parking lots can be operated either as resident-priority parking or free parking. If operated as resident-priority parking, a parking fee of up to 40,000 KRW per day can be charged, and the parking fees belong to the building owner’s income. However, in the case of apartments, they can also be opened using a time-based paid system designating daytime hours.
Through this project, Gangseo-gu has secured a total of 694 parking spaces in 16 attached parking lots and opened them to local residents. For more details, please contact the Gangseo-gu Parking Management Division.
