District and Soongsil University to Host 'Seocho AIoT Smart City Makethon & Conference' on 26th... 10 Teams Showcase Innovative Prototype Ideas, Including Presentations and Awards Ceremony
Seocho-gu, the only autonomous district in Seoul recognized as a smart city both domestically and internationally, will hold an exhibition of prototype ideas from residents aimed at solving urban problems by integrating smart technology.
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will host the ‘Seocho AIoT Smart City Makerthon & Conference’ on the 26th at The-K Hotel (located in Umyeon-dong, Seocho-gu).
‘Makerthon’ is a compound word of ‘making’ and ‘marathon,’ referring to a competition where participants form teams to create prototype ideas to solve urban problems within a set period.
This event will showcase prototypes from 10 teams under the theme ‘Proposing innovative ideas to solve district administration problems.’ The participating teams, selected through a public contest in July, developed their prototypes over two months with mentoring from professional instructors.
The prototypes are based on AI, big data, and software technologies, including ▲a smoking motion recognition and guidance device using AI ▲creation of Yangjaecheon smart park using IoT ▲QR smart volunteer service ▲AI chatbot service ▲rainwater level risk detection in parking lots ▲smart traffic signals dedicated to easing traffic congestion during protests ▲automatic pothole detection algorithm ▲danger manhole warning system due to heavy rain ▲autonomous street garbage bin robot ▲and street lamps that provide music and light.
From 3:20 PM, visitors can view the 10 prototypes displayed in a corner of the venue and listen to explanations from the participants.
Afterwards, the district will announce the top three teams and award certificates along with prizes: ▲Grand Prize (1,000,000 KRW) ▲Excellence Award (700,000 KRW) ▲Encouragement Award (500,000 KRW). The three selected teams will present their prototypes at the event following the awards ceremony.
Prior to the awards ceremony, from 2:40 PM, a conference will be held to strengthen Seocho-gu’s global smart city capabilities and present a future blueprint.
Lee Hyun-gyu, Director of the AI Project Group at the Ministry of Science and ICT, will give a lecture titled ‘The Role of AI in Industrial Innovation and Strengthening Global Industrial Competitiveness through AI,’ followed by a speech on ‘The Future City’ by Esteve Almirall, professor at ESADE University in Spain.
Going forward, the district plans to review the 10 prototypes with relevant departments and apply them to actual district administration.
This event is part of the ‘Regional Intelligence Innovation Talent Development Project’ jointly hosted by Seocho-gu and Soongsil University, with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “This event will be an opportunity to solve urban problems and draw a future blueprint for Seocho-gu through residents’ ideas. We will continue to do our best to add smart technology to all aspects of daily life such as environment, welfare, safety, and transportation so that residents can enjoy a comfortable daily life.”
