Having won 3-0 against Pakistan in the first match held in the morning, Korea also swept Thailand, advancing directly to the quarterfinals as the top team in the group. This means they will not face the 'strongest teams' China or Japan until the quarterfinals.

Korea will play the quarterfinal match on the 24th against the team that wins in the round of 16. The tournament bracket will be finalized through a draw held after the group stage concludes on the 23rd.

Korea is challenging to reach the finals for the first time in 33 years since the 1990 Beijing Games, where they won the silver medal this year.
