Kim Woong: "Despite threats from Gaeddal, passed... 'Jjolbo' Lee Jae-myung's political life is ending"

People Power Party Lawmaker's Facebook Post
"Must Develop Strategy Without Relying on Reflex Gains"

Kim Woong, a member of the People Power Party, claimed that the approval of the arrest consent bill for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, means "regardless of whether an arrest warrant is issued, Lee's political life has come to an end."

On the 22nd, Kim posted on Facebook, saying, "Above all, the 18-day hunger strike during which he couldn't even enter the emergency room of St. Mary's Hospital, and the post in which he discarded his promise to give up immunity from arrest like a used item, have solidified his image as a 'coward,'" adding, "In other words, the symbolic capital that Lee once had no longer exists."

Kim also added, "Moreover, the fact that nearly 40 members cast approval votes despite death threats from 'Gaeddal' (Reform's daughters) means that Lee is no longer the representative of a unified front."

He then mentioned the possibility of Lee receiving a nomination while in prison. Kim said, "If Lee is nominated while incarcerated, our party should at least present him with a plaque of appreciation," adding, "Just repeating the phrase 'If you vote for the Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung will be released from prison' is enough for us to win."

Kim emphasized that the People Power Party should devise a new strategy rather than relying on the Democratic Party's misfortunes for collateral benefits. He said, "In any case, about 40 members of the Democratic Party showed reformist movements. Now it's our party's turn," adding, "Of course, our party expects to gain collateral benefits if the Democratic Party splits, but that is a short-sighted view."

He continued, "Even when the People’s Party took all the Honam seats in the past, the Democratic Party still won," and said, "Even if the party splits, without appropriate policies or strategies to counter the reform drive of either the Democratic Party without Lee Jae-myung or the new party, a greater defeat is expected in the current situation."
