Novacell Technology (CEO Taehoon Lee) plans to accelerate the development of peptoid-based pet pharmaceuticals and skincare products in collaboration with Haemaru Companion Animal Medical Foundation (Chairperson Sohyun Kim).

Novacell Technology is developing peptide therapeutics for immune-related inflammatory diseases and has recently entered the skin trouble care field.

On the 22nd (Friday) at 11 a.m., Novacell Technology and Haemaru Companion Animal Medical Foundation held a business agreement ceremony by signing an MOU at Haemaru Animal Hospital located in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.

Through this MOU, Novacell Technology and Haemaru Companion Animal Medical Foundation promised to cooperate across various fields including research, development, and global expansion of pharmaceuticals and skincare products for pets to achieve mutual growth and treat intractable diseases in companion animals.

Additionally, they will jointly plan research projects on pet pharmaceuticals using Novacell Technology’s patented ingredient ‘Peptiroid (Peptide Resolving Over-road of Immune/Inflammatory Disease)’, participate together in related research and commercialization, and collaboratively develop new solutions and products that contribute to business expansion and growth with Haemaru Companion Animal Medical Foundation.

Haemaru Animal Hospital (Director Jinkyung Kim), operated by Haemaru Companion Animal Medical Foundation, established a Severe Intractable Disease Center in 2023 to focus on treating companion animals suffering from intractable diseases and is striving for new drug development by conducting clinical trials of treatments for intractable diseases.

Sohyun Kim, Chairperson of Haemaru Companion Animal Medical Foundation, stated, “Haemaru Animal Hospital concentrates its medical capabilities on treating severe intractable diseases through specialized departments and a collaborative care system. Based on the hospital’s treatment know-how and case experience, we will work even harder with Novacell Technology to treat elderly, chronic, and intractable severe diseases in animals.”

Taehoon Lee, CEO of Novacell Technology, said, “We are very pleased to conduct research on pet skin care and inflammatory disease improvement together with Haemaru, the top companion animal medical foundation in Korea. Our pet trouble care product, Novapet Soothing Mist, has shown excellent effects on conditions such as folliculitis and atopy when used alongside treatments at Haemaru Animal Hospital, which led to this business collaboration. Utilizing our patented substance with outstanding effects on skin trouble care, we will jointly collaborate with Haemaru Companion Animal Medical Foundation to introduce various pharmaceuticals and skin care products that improve chronic issues like skin diseases and immune-related inflammatory diseases in pets.”

Novacell Technology is a company where PhD researchers from KAIST and POSTECH have participated in developing new drugs related to immune therapy for atopic dermatitis. The skin care peptide developed as a result of this research is the patented ingredient ‘Peptiroid’.

Peptiroid is a peptide ingredient with immune-resolving (Pro-resolving) action that rapidly improves various skin troubles without side effects. Its excellent anti-inflammatory action is known to restore skin barrier function and effectively relieve itching.

Haemaru Animal Hospital, opened in 2000, is Korea’s first private secondary referral animal hospital. Over the past 20 years, it has continued innovative activities in the domestic veterinary field, and this year established Haemaru Companion Animal Medical Foundation, Korea’s first non-profit medical foundation. Haemaru Companion Animal Medical Foundation is preparing social contribution projects such as operating a severe intractable disease translational medicine center, providing medical support for special-purpose dogs, and fostering veterinary medical talent.
