"A highly intellectual game" Bridge game... What kind of event is it?

The bridge game, which may be somewhat unfamiliar domestically, is a trump card game that has evolved over hundreds of years. According to the Korea Bridge Association, about 40 million people in over 130 countries worldwide enjoy the game, and it has long been used in Western societies as a means of leisure and social interaction.

Bridge is known as a highly intellectual game requiring thinking ability, judgment, and concentration. Additionally, since it is a partnership game played in pairs rather than an individual competition, coordinating and communicating well with one’s partner is very important.

Bridge has been recognized as an Olympic sport because it is a game that everyone can enjoy regardless of gender, age, race, religion, or nationality. It was held as a demonstration event at the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, and was officially included as an event at the 2018 Indonesia Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games and this year’s Hangzhou Asian Games in China.

Among the countries participating in the Asian Games, those strong in bridge include China, India, and Taiwan. China won gold medals in the women’s pair, mixed team (6 players), and super mixed team (6 players) events at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games. India took gold in the men’s pair event, and Taiwan won gold in the mixed pair event.

Meanwhile, the bridge competition at this Asian Games will begin on the 27th. The bridge national team, including Kim, is expected to depart around the 24th.
