According to industry sources on the 21st, Chairman Chung moved to the HMGMA construction site located in Bryan County after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for future mobility collaboration with the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, on the 19th (local time). Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia and his spouse, along with Jang Jae-hoon, President of Hyundai Motor Company, accompanied the site visit. Chairman Chung toured the construction sites of each structure of the new factory and received briefings from the persons in charge.
Governor Kemp posted on his social network service (SNS) account, "Honored to participate in the HMGMA site tour," and wrote, "We look forward to the future to be built here in Georgia," expressing his impressions of the site tour.
HMGMA is a new electric vehicle-only factory that Hyundai Motor Group is building in the United States. It is expected to become a key base for Hyundai Motor Group's electrification market strategy in North America.
Since the implementation of the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in August last year, only electric vehicles finally assembled within the North American region are eligible for subsidies from the U.S. government. With the importance of local production emphasized, Hyundai Motor Group plans to operate HMGMA more than three months ahead of the original schedule. HMGMA is planned to be established as an eco-friendly automobile factory with a production capacity of 300,000 units on a 11.83 million square meter site.
Yesterday, Jose Munoz, Global Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Hyundai Motor Group, said at the signing ceremony with Georgia Tech, "We have decided to expedite the completion of the factory as much as possible," and added, "We believe we can advance the completion date, originally January 2025, by more than three months."
