Ulsan Ulju-gun is launching a project to discover the village's unsung heroes, the 'Ban-jang' (village heads), from the 21st until October 17th.
Through this project, the county will visit 12 towns and townships within its jurisdiction to communicate with village Ban-jang, and in villages without a Ban-jang, the project will select new Ban-jang.
The Ban-jang has served as a bridge between administration and residents alongside the village chief at the forefront of administration, but due to social changes, their role has gradually diminished, lowering the effectiveness of the Ban-jang system.
Lee Soon-geol, the governor of Ulju-gun, will personally meet with village Ban-jang to communicate and seek ways to enhance their roles and strengthen their activities.
On the 21st, during a dialogue with village Ban-jang held at Samnam-eup Administrative Welfare Center, Governor Lee shared major priority projects of Ulju-gun and key projects by town and township, and directly explained the duties and roles of the Ban-jang. He also listened to their suggestions and difficulties, urging active participation in county administration.
Governor Lee Soon-geol said, “As local communities become more individualized, it is necessary to strengthen the activities of village Ban-jang who watch over neighbors and serve as communication channels within the community. We will continue to devise various support measures to encourage active participation and enhance the role of village Ban-jang.”
Ulju-gun plans to continue open and approachable communication administration for residents, including launching projects from next year to improve the understanding and capabilities of town and township village Ban-jang regarding county administration.
