In Gyeongnam, Strong Rain and Wind Cause Traffic Light Pole to Snap... No Casualties Reported

Heavy rain fell overnight in the Gyeongnam region, causing flood-related damage in various parts of the province.


According to the Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters on the 21st, from the previous night until 7 a.m. that day, a total of 11 flood-related dispatches were made: 4 in Tongyeong, 1 in Sacheon, 2 in Gimhae, 3 in Geoje, and 1 in Goseong.

In front of the intercity bus terminal in Gwangdo-myeon, Tongyeong City, a traffic light was broken, and trees fell and covered the roads in Misudong and Munhwa-dong.


In Jinyeong-eup, Gimhae City, roads were flooded, prompting firefighters to carry out emergency restoration efforts. Various damages occurred, but there were no casualties.

From midnight on the 20th to 6 a.m. on the 21st, an average of 42.1 mm of rain fell in the Gyeongnam region.


Earlier, Gyeongnam Province entered Emergency Level 1 duty around 3:20 p.m. the previous day and moved into the initial response phase around 2:20 a.m. that day.


Subsequently, 106 Sewolgyo bridges, 21 riverside walking trails, 7 floodplain parking lots, and 1 road in the province were preemptively controlled.


Although the heavy rain advisory issued for the province was lifted at 3 a.m. that day, the province plans to maintain a situation management system by continuously monitoring weather conditions.


Access restrictions will be lifted sequentially by the 22nd once river water levels, flooding, and landslide risks are resolved.
