Osan City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 21st that it was selected as an 'Outstanding Institution for Dementia Prevention Programs' in commemoration of Dementia Overcoming Day and received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare.
The commendation was given as a result of the Ministry of Health and Welfare highly evaluating the contributions to overcoming dementia in the respective regions, based on the national dementia management projects such as dementia prevention management and excellent program operation, targeting nationwide Dementia Safety Centers and Dementia Safety Hospitals.
Since 2011, the government has designated September 21 each year as 'Dementia Overcoming Day' in accordance with the 'Dementia Management Act.'
Previously, Osan City Dementia Safety Center was recognized for its professional and systematic integrated dementia management services and was selected as an 'Outstanding Institution for Dementia Programs' by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2020.
The Osan City Dementia Safety Center is promoting integrated dementia management services such as early dementia screening, dementia patient registration management, customized case management, operation of dementia shelters and prevention programs, awareness improvement campaigns, and support for care supplies through dedicated personnel. The city explained that it plans to gradually expand related services to respond to the increasing demand from residents.
Lee Gwon-jae, Mayor of Osan City, stated, "We will do our best to create a dementia-friendly social environment and improve the quality of life for dementia patients and their families through active project implementation, including operating various programs and providing service support for dementia management.”
