The zoning designation of the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail area in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, known as "Yeontral Park," will be changed to a natural green area.
On the 20th, Seoul City held the 14th Urban Planning Committee meeting and approved the original proposal to change the urban management plan (zoning and urban planning facilities) for the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail neighborhood park, the city announced on the 21st.
The Gyeongui Line Forest Trail is an area where the upper railway idle land remained after the Gyeongui Line was undergrounded, and Seoul City developed it into a park in 2016. Under the National Land Planning and Utilization Act, the zoning designation was mixed with residential areas (Type 1, 2, and 3 general residential areas and semi-residential areas) and general commercial areas, which did not correspond to the current park status.
This urban management plan change corrects the zoning designation, which was previously inconsistent with the current park status and the zoning classifications under the National Land Planning and Utilization Act, by changing it to a natural green area. It also rectifies the area of urban planning facilities (parks) that were partially omitted or incorrectly recorded during the park development project.
With the approval of the Urban Planning Committee, there will be no changes to how citizens rest and walk in the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail. The city expects that systematic zoning management in accordance with the National Land Planning and Utilization Act will be possible. The relevant urban management plan decision (change) is scheduled to be finalized and announced in October.
