Two Dangerous Dogs Attack Shepherd
Animal Abuse Suspicion Reported
Police Reviewing Owner's Possible Charges
Police have launched an investigation after receiving a witness report that two dangerous dogs were biting another dog in an officetel building in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. It was reported that the dog attacked by the dangerous dogs was essentially neglected.
According to the Bucheon Wonmi Police Station on the 20th, reports suspected of animal abuse were filed with the police and Bucheon City on the 18th and 19th, respectively. The reports stated that two Rottweilers, classified as dangerous dogs, were attacking a Shepherd on the terrace of an officetel. The Shepherd was reportedly essentially neglected.
Related videos and photos were also posted on social networking services (SNS). The footage captured two black Rottweilers biting the Shepherd. The dangerous dogs were also seen dragging the Shepherd around.
A, who posted the video, explained, "I know the owner's address, building, and unit number," adding, "Even though the two dogs that appear to be dangerous dogs continuously attacked the Shepherd, the owner kept them in the same space."
He continued, "I saw the Shepherd receiving treatment and having bandages after being injured, but it was placed in the same space again and attacked once more," adding, "I don't know if it is still alive now."
Police investigation revealed that the owner of all three dogs was the same person, identified as B, a resident of the officetel. B reportedly stated during the police investigation, "I like dogs, so I deliberately moved to a house with a terrace," and denied any intention of abuse, claiming that the Shepherd was adopted out to Gangwon Province.
It is known that the police are reviewing whether to book B on charges of violating the Animal Protection Act. They are also investigating whether B obtained permission to raise dangerous dogs.
Under the current Animal Protection Act, dangerous dogs such as Rottweilers, Dosa dogs, and Pit Bull Terriers, which pose a risk of harm to people or other animals, must be registered with local governments and have related insurance, among other requirements, to obtain permission for breeding.
