Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, held the "16th Dementia Overcoming Day Commemoration Ceremony and One Mind Walking Event" on the 20th at Sanso Cafe Cheongsong Garden in celebration of Dementia Overcoming Day (September 21).
On the 20th, Cheongsong-gun held the 16th Dementia Overcoming Day Commemorative One-Heart Walking Event.
Dementia Overcoming Day was designated in 1995 by the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the International Alzheimer’s Association to create a new opportunity for families and society to care for dementia patients. In South Korea, September 21 has been designated as Dementia Overcoming Day under the Dementia Management Act, and events have been held annually since 2008.
Hosted by Gyeongbuk Province and organized by the Gyeongbuk Provincial Dementia Center and Cheongsong-gun Dementia Safety Center, this Dementia Overcoming Day commemoration ceremony was held under the theme “Overcoming Dementia Together” at Sanso Cafe Cheongsong Garden, the nation’s largest cockscomb flower garden.
The event began with the first part, the Dementia Overcoming Day commemoration ceremony, followed by the second part, the Dementia Overcoming One Mind Walking Event. The program included a pre-ceremony performance, commendations for meritorious persons, a dementia overcoming and walking event performance, dementia prevention exercises, and side events such as the “Overcoming Dementia” event and various experience (promotion) booths.
Yoon Kyung-hee, the county governor, said, “This event will serve as an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of building consensus and raising awareness for overcoming dementia,” adding, “We will create a happier Cheongsong-gun through warm companionship in overcoming dementia.”
