"Courage Not Even to Stand Before the Judge"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, wrote a message requesting lawmakers to 'reject' the arrest consent bill a day before the vote, prompting criticism from Ha Tae-kyung, a member of the People Power Party, who said, "The real purpose of Lee's hunger strike was to defeat the arrest consent bill."
On the 20th, Ha said on his social media, "Lee, who gave up his immunity from arrest, appealed for the rejection of the arrest consent bill when it was actually brought to the National Assembly. I suspected it, and as expected, it's just like Lee," he said.
Ha said, "In fact, when Lee started his hunger strike, even within the Democratic Party, many said it was sudden and unclear. The purpose of the hunger strike was too vague and ambiguous," adding, "But today, Lee clearly revealed the purpose of this hunger strike. It was to defeat the arrest consent bill."
He criticized, "If he is innocent, he should confidently go before the judge and undergo a substantive warrant review. However, Lee did not choose that path and instead took the whole country hostage with his hunger strike. He knows better than anyone the crimes he committed. He doesn't even have the courage to face the judge."
Ha pointed out, "In the past, Lee frequently changed his words. He once said 'Respected Park Geun-hye' and then mocked the public by saying, 'Do you think I really respect her?' This time too, the public who hoped he would keep his promise to give up immunity from arrest were left disappointed."
He added, "Now the ball is in the hands of the Democratic Party lawmakers. I hope they carefully consider what politics is for the people and make a wise choice."
