Five Members Including 'Moon Government Officials and Opposition-Origin Mayors' Join Party Today... Starting Expansion of Influence

People Power Party Holds Welcome Ceremony Today for 5 Former Moon Government Officials Joining
Jo Jeonghun, Leader of Sidae Jeonhwan, Also Joins... Official Entry Tomorrow

The People Power Party officially announced the recruitment of six talents, including former officials from the Moon Jae-in administration and leaders of minority parties in the National Assembly. This move appears to be a full-scale expansion ahead of next year's general election.

On the 20th, the People Power Party held a "Challenging Spirit for the People! Welcome Ceremony" at the National Assembly and officially announced the admission of five individuals: former National Tax Service Commissioner Kim Hyun-jun, former Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Police Commissioner Go Ki-cheol, former Namyangju Mayor Jo Gwang-han, former Vice President of SK Group's SUPEX Council Big Young-chun, and KBS public recruitment comedian Kim Young-min.

Jo Jeong-hoon, leader of the Transition Party, announced his joining of the People Power Party the day before but did not attend the event. Jo plans to hold his admission ceremony on the 21st.

At the event, People Power Party leader Kim Ki-hyun handed bouquets to the recruited talents and said, "There is an old saying that a failing household never stops fighting within, while a thriving household always has people coming and going. The latter is the image of the People Power Party." He added, "We will continue to welcome talented individuals with a challenging spirit for the people."

The People Power Party is expanding its base by recruiting former Moon administration officials following Jo's admission. Former National Tax Service Commissioner Kim and former Jeju Police Commissioner Go served as LH President and National Tax Service Commissioner, and as Deputy Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Autonomous Police and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Police Commissioner, respectively, during the Moon Jae-in administration. Kim emphasized his 30 years of public service experience in his remarks and pledged to work toward economic recovery, while Go vowed to dedicate himself to the residents of Jeju.

Former Mayor Jo, who also joined on the same day, is a pro-Roh figure who served as the Blue House Public Relations Planning Secretary during the Roh Moo-hyun administration. He had previously clashed with Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung over disaster basic income and valley maintenance projects during Lee's tenure as Gyeonggi Province governor. Jo said, "I believe a scholar should do his best where he is recognized and needed."

Meanwhile, the ruling party is also focusing on consolidating conservative support. On the 13th, leader Kim visited former President Park Geun-hye's residence in Daegu and had a 40-minute conversation. Kim told reporters, "Former President Park said, 'As the ruling party leader, you must carry a heavy responsibility,' and encouraged me by saying, 'Your goal is to achieve good results, so work hard.'"

Earlier, the People Power Party emphasized "talent recruitment" as the foundation for victory in the general election during last month's party retreat. Leader Kim stated, "We must bring in the best talents in the world," adding, "Factionalism is irrelevant, and personal likes or dislikes do not matter. If they are good talents who can win the general election, we must actively recruit them, not just with three visits but with ten."
