Yongin City, Completion Expected by End of Next Year
Expectations for Fine Dust Reduction and Heatwave Mitigation
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 20th that it will create a 10,000㎡ urban forest on the site of the traffic plaza in front of the Suwon Singal Tollgate (TG) on the Gyeongbu Expressway.

This project follows the selection in June for the Korea Forest Service's climate response urban forest creation project. The city plans to invest a total of 1 billion KRW, including 500 million KRW in national funds and 500 million KRW in city funds, to complete the construction by the end of next year.
The city expects that the urban forest will absorb fine dust such as exhaust fumes from vehicles passing through Yeongdeok Intersection, Singal Five-way Intersection, and the Gyeongbu Expressway, and contribute to responding to the climate crisis by mitigating urban heat islands and heatwaves.
A city official said, “Once the urban forest is completed, it is expected to play a significant role in improving the living environment by forming a green corridor together with the recently created Yeongdeok Supjaram Neighborhood Park,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to create more public green spaces so that citizens can comfortably relax.”
