6th Urban Regeneration Festival Also Open, Including Chushu Market Where Handmade Shoes Can Be Bought at Affordable Prices
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will hold various events including the ‘Seongdong Design Week Fashion Show’ and the Seongsu Handmade Shoes Shushu Market in the Seongsu-dong area on the 22nd during the ‘Creative×Seongsu’ festival period.
Before the event, Seongdong-gu will restrict vehicle access on Seongsu-ro near Exit 3 of Seongsu Station and the Daerim Warehouse area from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on Yeonmujang-gil from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Started in 2015 and now in its 7th year, this year’s Seongdong Design Week has been held as a public art exhibition and experiential cultural event, but this year it is planned as a fashion show in collaboration with fashion designer Lee Sang-bong to discover emerging designers.
The fashion show will be held on the 22nd from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in an open space along Seongsu-ro so that all citizens visiting Seongsu-dong can watch. The first part features a high school fashion and model contest showcasing the future of Korean fashion, followed by the second part, which consists of a fashion show by emerging designers.
Additionally, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 22nd, the ‘2023 Seongsu Handmade Shoes Shushu Market’ will be held along Seongsu-ro. About 10 companies related to handmade shoes and leather products will participate in this event to promote Seongsu’s specialized handmade shoes business, selling high-quality handmade shoes produced in Seongsu-dong at affordable prices starting from around 20,000 KRW. A leather craft class will also be operated, allowing participants to experience making special bracelets and keyrings using leather in a hands-on workshop.
Finally, from 11 a.m. on the 22nd, the 6th Urban Regeneration Festival ‘Walk Only on Flower Roads’ will be held on Seongsu-ro. The street filled with music will feature over 100 free markets and various experience booths divided into four themed zones.
These events are planned in connection with the ‘Creative×Seongsu’ expo festival, a cultural technology-based event held throughout Seongsu-dong from the 18th to the 24th of this month, aiming to lead Seongsu’s cultural industry. The district will provide residents with richer entertainment including pop and jazz performances, art exhibitions and markets, and mobile game experiences using virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Through this event, we hope to create a design convergence ecosystem in Seongdong-gu and provide an opportunity for future talents in the cultural industry to gather in Seongdong-gu.”
