Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, "Shared Goal of Developing Tourism-Centered Regional Economy... Expecting Improvement in Urban Competitiveness"
Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su) has established a sisterhood relationship with Nam-gu, Busan, for mutual cooperation and co-prosperity.
With the purpose of seeking exchange and mutual development in various local fields such as economy, tourism, culture, education, and sports, a sisterhood agreement ceremony was held on the 18th at Nam-gu Office in Busan.
Through this, the two institutions will cooperate to enhance residents' benefits by sharing and utilizing each other's resources and discovering sustainable cooperative projects.
Among these, they promised to actively implement ▲ cooperation to revitalize local culture, tourism, and sports ▲ exchange of administrative information such as sharing excellent policy projects and mutual friendly visits ▲ support based on mutual care in case of disasters and accidents.
Mapo-gu plans to share its excellent policies such as Resident Participation Filial Piety Meal, Hongdae Red Road, and Zero Incineration Stores with Nam-gu, Busan, and jointly promote university exchanges and youth policies tailored to the characteristics of Nam-gu, which is home to four universities (Pukyong National University, Kyungsung University, Dongmyung University, and Busan Arts College).
Oh Eun-taek, Mayor of Nam-gu, Busan, said, “Mapo-gu and Nam-gu, Busan have become family from today,” and added, “Although sisterhoods between large cities are rare, since the two cities are connected by a precious bond, I hope that this agreement will lead to great development for both.”
In response, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Busan Nam-gu and Mapo-gu share a common goal of developing the local economy with tourism as a core industry,” and added, “I hope that through this sisterhood, we can work together to find ways to further enhance the competitiveness of our cities.”
This sisterhood with Nam-gu, Busan was triggered by Oh Eun-taek, Mayor of Nam-gu, Busan, visiting Mapo-gu in April to observe excellent advanced cases. Mapo-gu has now established its seventh sister city relationship with Nam-gu, following Gyeongbuk Yecheon-gun, Jeonnam Sinan-gun, Chungnam Cheongyang-gun, Jeonbuk Gochang-gun, Gyeongnam Namhae-gun, and Incheon Ongjin-gun.
