"Monthly Usage Fee Planned to Counter Bot Groups"
Elon Musk, CEO of social media platform X, announced plans to charge users a small monthly fee.
According to the US CNBC broadcast on the 18th (local time), Musk stated during a live streaming conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "We intend to charge a monthly fee to 550 million X users." Currently, X has approximately 550 million users.
Musk explained, "We are moving towards adopting a small monthly payment for using the X system to combat the massive group of bots (automated information retrieval programs)," presenting the paid service as a countermeasure against bot accounts.
He predicted that if a monthly payment system is introduced, distributing bots on X will become cumbersome and costly, leading to a gradual decrease in bot accounts.
However, he did not specify how much the fee would be or what features would be available at different payment levels.
Meanwhile, X currently offers a paid subscription service called 'X Premium.'
Premium subscribers can use features such as ▲blue checkmark usage ▲50% reduction in ads ▲priority in conversations and searches ▲post editing ▲writing long posts (up to 25,000 characters), and the subscription fee is set at $8 per month (approximately 10,585 KRW).
